The Institute for International Policy Studies (IIPS), through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), is inviting nominations for the 13th Nakasone Yasuhiro Awards. 

The awards are intended to honor meaningful achievements in the field of science and technology to encourage further endeavors which will contribute to peace and prosperity in the international community.

There are 2 categories of the 13th Nakasone Yasuhiro Awards: The Award of Excellence, which will grant 1,000,000 Yen and an award plaque and the Incentive Award, with 500,000 Yen and award plaque.  

Candidates from the Philippines, the Asia-Pacific region, and Japan around the age of 45 or younger with demonstrated exemplary research or activity in the following fields are encouraged to apply:

  • Enhancing peace and security in the international community
  • Promotion of international economic development and cooperation
  • Activities to support international exchange in culture and arts as well as cultural cooperation
  • International joint research and international collaboration in the fields of science and technology
  • efforts in such global issues as the environment, energy, medicine, poverty, etc.

 Nominees and applicants are to submit a detailed description of the project in English (maximum of 2,500 words), accompanied by supporting evidence of the subject project.

A curriculum vitae with the nominee or applicant's full name, address, age, nationality, place of employment and contact information (telephone, facsimile and email) will also be required. Note that these documents are no longer to be returned after submission.

The e-ASIA Joint Research Program (e-ASIA JRP) has sent out the call for the submission of health research proposals focusing on the areas of Infectious Diseases and Cancer Research.

The aim of the joint call is not only to contribute to the development of regional science but also to overcome public health and medical problems in East Asia in the near future. Applicants are invited to identify potential research partners in at least two (2) other countries of the e-ASIA JRP Member organizations which participate in this Call:

  • Cambodia: Ministry of Health (MOH)
  • Japan: Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development(AMED)
  • New Zealand: Health Research Council (HRC)
  • Philippines: Department of Science and Technology (DOST)
  • Russia: Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR)
  • USA: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
  • USA: National Cancer Institute (NCI)
  • Vietnam: Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)

Eligible Filipino researchers seeking new funding should apply for Grants-in-Aid (GIA) from DOST through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). Filipino researcher applicants may view the complete guidelines and are advised to download all applicable DOST-PCHRD GIA Forms from the PCHRD website, completely accomplish these forms, and send these through the PCHRD online submission system. The DOST-PCHRD also requires submission of a formal letter of intent from the applicant with a statement that the proposal is for e-ASIA JRP and an endorsement from the authorized head of organization. All applicants must fulfill their respective national eligibility rules for research grant application. Researchers from industry are encouraged to participate in the joint collaboration in accordance with national eligibility rules.

The Department of Science and Technology IX (DOST IX) and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) is accepting applicants, nominations and recommendations for the Alberto G. Romualdez Jr. Outstanding Health Research Award (AROHRA).

The award is to be given to a research program or project that has demonstrated the link between research and practice through the utilization of research findings in the health delivery system.

Completed research programs or projects done by Filipino researchers may apply for the award. The nominated entry must be done mainly in the Philippines.

The award has 2 categories: Biomedical Research and Health Services Research. Winners will receive a plaque of appreciation and PhP 500,000 per category.

Nominations may be submitted to the Consortium until February 24, 2017, while DOST-PCHRD will be accepting submissions till March 3, 2017.

Application / nomination forms are available at the DOST IX regional office in Pettit Barracks, Zamboanga City. Copies of the said documents are also posted in the DOST-PCHRD website. Interested participants should use the prescribed forms. Any alteration on the forms is not allowed.
