The Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD) conducted its 1st Quarter Meeting at the Crystal Ballroom Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City. It was the first face-to-face quarterly meeting to be conducted by the consortium in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic began and was made possible under Alert Level 1 of the IATF guidelines which states that there are no restrictions in terms of indoor and outdoor capacities. Everyone can undertake intrazonal and interzonal travel without regard to age and even comorbidities.

Two researchers from Zamboanga Peninsula garnered the top spots in the Mindanao-wide conference held April 5-6.

Emerging as winners in the poster category during the Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (MRSM) convened as a virtual conference, Dr. Genelyn Madjos and Dr. Servando Halili with Annie Gonzales won first and second place respectively, competed with six (6) other entries from Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao region, Caraga region, Soccsksargen and the Autonomous region of Bangsamoro.

Another highlight of the Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) is the annual scientific poster session. The annual contest will feature the latest regional research outputs of participating higher education institutions, research centers, and government agencies. Posters to be presented in the digital session were screened by the DOST Regional Offices.
 
The winner of this year's Best Scientific Poster is none other than Dr. Genelyn G. Madjos and Mr. Mark Llod G. Dapar of Western Mindanao State University with the study title "Systematic review and declarative survey of medicinal plants used for covid-19 prevention and respiratory symptom treatments during the pandemic in Zamboanga peninsula, Philippines". Dr. Madjos is also a recipient of the PCHRD-RRF Regional Research Fund with her study title "Systematic Review on Philippine Traditional Plants with Inhibitory Properties against SARS-COV-2".  
 
 
 
 
On the other hand, Dr. Servando D. Halili, Jr. and Ms. Annie B. Gonzales of Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology took home the 2nd Place with the study title "The presence of microplastics in the five most commonly sold fishes in Zamboanga city". Dr. Halili's study is also a PCHRD-RRF funded research.
