Get the chance to study at one of the leading institutions on liver research in the world!

The PhD in Molecular Biomedicine Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. The three-year PhD program integrates basic research and clinics focusing on the study of molecular approaches to cancer biology, genetics, jaundice, and metabolic diseases. For more information, visit: https://www.pchrd.dost.gov.ph/.../2023-call-for.../

This is implemented in partnership with the Fondazione Italiana Fegato - FIF Onlus and Università degli studi di Trieste.

Hi! My name is Clarissa Garcia and I am from the Philippines pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Trieste - Università degli studi di Trieste funded by a scholarship from DOST Philippines.

My project is housed at the Fondazione Italiana Fegato (FIF) ONLUS headed by Prof. Claudio Tiribelli and located in the Area Science Park of Trieste.

I am currently in my first year of the program and my research project will focus on the regulation of Yes-associated protein (YAP) by Aurora Kinase A (AURKA) in the context of liver cirrhosis. This project is under the supervision of Dr. Devis Pascut of the liver cancer group of FIF. In this project, I expect to perform molecular biology techniques and in vitro cellular assays to elucidate the underlying mechanisms by which AURKA modulates YAP activity and/or localization, and the role of this regulation in liver cirrhosis development.

As a doctoral student pursuing a career in translational sciences, I believe that the academic and research environment at FIF will serve as a springboard for me to grow as a person and as a researcher.

Scientific Breakthrough at USA!

A new bacterial species producing natural compounds for antibiotic and anticancer drugs leads was discovered from Tubbataha Reefs National Park in Sulu Sea by Augustinian scientists led by Dr. Doralyn S. Dalisay, C2B2 Director and Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, CND3 Director, together with young and talented researchers at the University of San Agustin.

This breakthrough was published in Microbiology Spectrum (Impact Factor: 9.043), a journal of the American Society for Microbiology.
