A research and development (R&D) output that would strengthen the firepower capabilities of our navy’s small patrol craft in defending the country’s littoral water territories was turned over to the Philippine Navy, an attached branch of the Department of National Defense (DND), on 20 May 2022.

During its 124th anniversary celebration, the Philippine Navy received the miniature version of the Building a Universal Mount for Heavy-Barrel Automated Weapon Integration or BUHAWI from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The Philippines, through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and a US Embassy science fellow are exploring a possible partnership on African swine fever (ASF) diagnostics.
"The possible areas of collaboration aim to help the government strengthen its efforts to reduce the impact of ASF on farmers, consumers, and the economy," DOST Assistant Secretary Leah Buendia said in an interview.

The Senate approved a bill seeking to convert the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) into the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) in provinces nationwide.

Sen. Nancy Binay, sponsor and co-author of Senate Bill No. 2484 or the Provincial Science and Technology Act, said the PSTCs of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) have continuously provided, disseminated and transferred scientific and technical know-how and support to the Filipino citizenry.

The PSTCs are responsible for the technological transfer and development in technology-based enterprises of the government in rural areas.

Researchers from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will have you know that those mussels are good not only as food but also for skin care.
In a study titled “Extraction and Utilization of Mussel Glycogen,” the researchers from UPV and the DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) used food-grade mussel glycogen extracts to develop cosmetic products like cream, ointment and soap.
