Zambo researchers to participate in research competition in health, science & technology in Bacolod City
Three researchers from Zamboanga City will represent Region IX in the 5th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week celebration on 10-12 August 2011 at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City.
The delegates, selected and endorsed by the Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD), are 1.) Gemma Acosta of ADZU-School of Medicine, presenter for Student Research Category with her study entitled “Development and Evaluation of Eye Screening Tool among Grade 1 Students of Public Elementary Schools in Zamboanga City” ; 2.) Rynel Wee of Brent Hospital Colleges Inc. (BHCI), presenter for the Inter-Regional Research Category with study entitled “Healthcare Service Competencies of Volunteer Nurses Preferred by Internal Clients in Surgical Department of the Zamboanga Medical Center”; and 3.) Michael Jay Solis of ADZU-College of Science and Information Technology, presenter for the Poster Exhibit Contest with poster entitled “Taxonomy, Biodiversity and Biological Activity of Marine-Derived Fungi Associated with Seaweeds in Zamboanga City, Philippines.”
Together with the presenters is Dr. Servando Halili Jr., Dean of the Graduate School of the ADZU, who will also represent Dr. Grace Rebollos, Chairperson of ZCHRD.
The three-day event bearing the theme, “Convergence in Divergence, Innovations for better health,” is a venue for stakeholders to interact, to learn from each other, to share information and experiences, and contribute research-based solutions to health problems, among other things.
Another highlight of the event is the launching of Health Innovation Marketplace and awarding of winners for the Best Mentor Award and Poster Exhibit Contest.
ZCHRD is an organization created to optimize the use of research to help alleviate the health and nutrition problems of the people in Region IX, with financial and technical support of the DOST’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). The consortium is led by the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).
The PNHRS is led by the Department of Health and the Department of Science and Technology through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). The PCHRD Governing Council is the policy-making body of the PNHRS. (Thelma E. Diego/DOST IX PRESS RELEASE)
