The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) congratulates its regular member, Gemino "Jimmy" H. Abad, on his conferment as National Artist for Literature.

The Order of National Artist (Orden ng mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining), established under Proclamation No. 1001 signed in 1972, is the highest national recognition conferred upon Filipinos who have made distinct contributions to the development of the Philippine arts and culture.

Abad, together with other seven individuals, was conferred the Order National Artist in Malacañang last June 16, 2022.

On March 14, 2018, during the NRCP 85th General Membership Assembly and Annual Scientific Conference at the Philippine International Convention Center, he also received the Member Emeritus Award for the NRCP Division of Humanities for his immense contribution to the field of studies, particularly in poetry and literary criticism. Having elevated the status of local literature and creative writing, Abad has become one of the most celebrated names in Philippine literature.
