A.      Background

The Oral Research Paper Presentation Competition (Professional & Student Category) aims to showcase the completed research projects    conducted by all member and non-member institutions of the Zamboanga Consortium  for Health Research and Development (ZCHRD). ZCHRD serves as a vital structure that links together institutions engaged in or with interest in health research activities that impact on regional as well as national health needs. 

 

B.      Eligibility

  • The research paper should be authored by a researcher in Region IX of a member or non-member institution of ZCHRD and/or other local and international funding institutions
  • The research paper should be completed within the last 2 years but have not been featured in previous national or international

D.      Submission of Entries

  1. All entries must be endorsed by the head of institution.
  2. Entries should be submitted to the screening committee on or before 15 November 2022
  3. Documentary requirements:
  • Curriculum Vitae of the Primary Author
  • Electronic copy (word format) of the completed research paper to be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Research Abstract containing a maximum of 250 words and MeSH keywords, which is accessible  at https://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html
  • Applicable research authorization/clearance/permit/certification
    1. For studies which involved human participants
      • Research Ethics Clearance
      • National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) certification
    2. For studies which used biological materials where genetic manipulation is involved or introduction of exotic or imported plants, microorganisms or animals
      • Biosafety permit
    3. For studies conducted on animals
      • Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) authorization
    4. For studies which covered the protected areas of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
      • Gratuitous Permit

 

E.      Screening Process

  1. The screening committee secretariat will conduct initial review of submitted entries to check the eligibility and completeness of required documents
  2. After initial evaluation, the entries will be forwarded to the screening committee for technical review and evaluation, which will be composed of content, methodology, and research ethics experts
  3. The qualified research projects will be selected based on the following set of criteria:

 

Abstract (20%):

  1. A total of Ten (10) research projects, five (5) in each category will be selected for presentation under the Professional and Student Categories

 

F.       Contest Proper

There will be a plenary session intended solely for Oral Paper Presentation. Set A will be for the Student Category followed by Set B for Professional Category.

 

Mechanics for the Oral Research Paper Presentation (Professional/student):

 

  • Time allotted to present the research project is fifteen (15) minutes only
  • The format of presentation is as follows:

 

In powerpoint presentation with maximum of 10 slides, which contains the following:

  • (1) Project description, (2) Objectives of the project, (3) Methodology, (4) Results, (5) Conclusion, and (6) Recommendation
  • Font Style: Arial, Font Color: Black, Font Size: At least 24pts

 

  • The project leader MUST be the presenter during the competition proper.
  • During the paper presentation, the researcher should refrain from mentioning and/or acknowledging information, which would reveal the identity of the institution/s he/she.
  • There will be a 10-minute question and answer session after each set has presented─ one question each will come from the three (3) judges.
  • The criteria for judging will include the following:

H.          Prize

Winning entries for Oral Research Paper Presentation for both Professional and Student categories will receive a Certificate of Recognition and a Cash Prize (Professional Category: Php 10,000/ Student Category: Php 8,000)
