The College of Nursing of the Western Mindanao State University conducted its 3rd research forum last January 27, 2012 with the theme of "A forum for Dissemination" in furtherance of the Zamboanga Consortium for Health Research and Development's (ZCHRD) mandate to optimize the use of research to help alleviate the health and nutrition problems of the people in region IX.
There were 7 researches presented during the said forum led by one of the college's faculty, Ms. Sarah S. Taupan, DPA with her research on "The primary health care services for the Samals in the city of Zamboanga" followed by Mr. Rommel N. Rosaldo, DPA with his paper on "Disaster risk management capability of the Local Government Units of the City of Zamboanga". Other researches presented came from 5 selected groups of students, namely:
- Perception of parents on the integration of sex education in the intermediate level;
- Creation of a monitoring task force for a smoke-free College of Nursing;
- Self-regulatory skills program for children with asthma;
- Factors affecting the clinical performance of third year nursing students in private and public schools in Zamboanga City; and
- Strategies in the implementation of DOH breastfeeding protocol among non-compliant mothers
ZCHRD is an organization that mirrors the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) framework at the regional level with financial and technical support of the DOST-PCHRD. The consortium is led by the ADZU with Dr. Teresita Montano as the Chairperson.
